Hey Mary’s, I first want to say how proud I am of the community we’ve built together over the past five years. You’ve made Mary so much more than just a bar—you’ve made it a home for queer joy, connection, and creativity.
I’m here to share an important update:
our last day of service at 229 Congress Street will be January 28th. This was not an easy decision, and while it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to our physical space, it’s also an opportunity for growth.
After much thought, we’ve decided not to pursue a new brick-and-mortar location right now. Instead, we’ll continue fostering this amazing community by hosting pop-ups, cocktail parties, dance nights, and even some raves in partnership with like-minded local businesses.
This isn’t the end of Cocktail Mary—it’s a pivot. We’ll take the time to resource ourselves and lay the groundwork for a stronger foundation. Our timeline will now be longer than we initially hoped. This will enable us to build a permanent space that will be to a standard the community deserves and we need more time and resources to make that happen.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. You’re the heart of Cocktail Mary, and I can’t wait to celebrate this next phase with all of you.
As we pivot into hosting pop-ups, dance nights, cocktail parties, and more, we’re continuing our NUMARKET gift card campaign to fund this transition. This is your chance to support Cocktail Mary in a way that not only helps us right now but gives you value in return.
Here’s where we stand: We’ve already raised $10,000 thanks to your amazing support! To reach our updated goal of $30,000, we only need to raise $20,000 more.
Every gift card you purchase will be redeemable at all of our pop-up events, parties, and even on some fun new merchandise we’re designing for this next phase of Mary.
This is mutual aid at its best—your support helps resource us in the short term, and you get to enjoy incredible experiences and items in return.
This campaign is money well spent, and it’s the best way to ensure the success of Cocktail Mary as we move into this exciting period. So, if you’ve got a little extra cash from the holidays—or if you’re saving by staying in this January—this is the perfect way to support us while treating yourself later.
The link is here in our website under the fundraising tab. Let’s hit this goal together and make the next phase of Cocktail Mary a huge success. Thank you for being such an incredible part of our story. We can’t wait to see you at our next event!
As we transition into this exciting new chapter, we want to make sure you stay connected with everything we’re doing.
We’re excited to share that we’re planning to build out a more robust website. This site will not only have details about our events but also feature information about local happenings through a queer lens. We have bigger plans for how to grow this resource, and the best way to stay in the know about everything we’re working on is to sign up for our newsletter. Our hope is to send at least one update each month with what we’re doing, where we’re at, and what’s on the horizon.
In addition to the newsletter, we’ll soon be posting a survey—or maybe even a couple! We want to hear from you, the community, about what you’d like to see from Cocktail Mary in the coming months. Whether it’s event ideas, types of gatherings, or even broader suggestions, we’re all ears. Mary has always been a space centered on the local queer community, and now we have a unique opportunity to use the power of that community to grow, fill gaps, and make Mary the best it can possibly be. Sign up for our newsletter, and stay tuned for surveys soon.
